Kasetsart University offers a course of “Science of the Land” with a highlight that focuses on building knowledge in both theory and practice terms for students to be able to apply the acquired knowledge with their career or start up business in the future. The format of teaching materials has been adapted and updated through times, which includes both traditional classroom teaching and online teaching and learning model. The university also offers financial support and research funding for both teachers and students to provide quality research products that benefit society, which the results of education can be further developed to build a career for the community or small entrepreneurs. In addition, the university has environmental projects and activities, which are opportunities for students and personnel to share opinions in doing activities together. The activities are organized annually to raise the awareness of students and personnel to realize sustainable environment.

6.8-1 Number of scholarly events related to environment and sustainability.

1. VGREEN: “Research center on environmental strategy for green business”.
2. The number of 352 Pink Trumpet Trees (Tabebuia rosea) or Chompooh Pantip in Kasetsart Universitty, Kamphaengsaen Campus have been registered as the “Heritage of the Land” for the fiscal year 2019.
3. Library – Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus Library was given G-Green award and certificate of excellence under the concept of “12th anniversary G-Green, 12 years eco-friendly road” from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
4. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering Kasetsart University Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus brought students to attend the 2019 Eco Concrete Competition and won the first prize on green concrete.

5. Orgafeed team, the collaboration between Orgafeed Company Limited and Dr. Attawit Kovitvadhi, a lecturer at Department of Physiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Kasetsart University won the first prize on the competition
of “Waste Runner” program searching for the best team for waste management model.

6. Asst.Prof.Dr. Kampanart Pensupa, Vice President for Academic Services, Kasetsart University received 2019 IP Champion award type 2: Higher education institute with intellectual property management excellence from Mr. Tossapol Tungsubutr, Director-General Department of Intellectual Property in IP FAIR 2019 under the concept “GROW YOUR THOUGHTS”.
7. Dean of Faculty of Science laid the vision to pilot in Kasetsart University for the first time so as to respond to the government policies and push forward the project “SCI KU GO ZERO WASTE WITH KM PACKAGING”. so as to completely stop using foam and plastic packaging by joining hand with K.M. Packaging Co.,Ltd.,

6.8-2 Growing plants and increasing green areas.

1. Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha jointly grew yellow star trees with Kasetsart University.
2. The 2020 plant growth and development day at KU Kamphaengsaen Campus.
3. Kasetsart University held plant growing activity on Asalha Puja day for the year 2020.
4. President and Vice President of Division of Social Innovation and Enterprise, Asst.Prof.Dr. Nikom Lamsak Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Sudkhet Nakasatian were invited to preside over the event of forest planting according to economic tree growing project at Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Agriculture and jointly made a project using research fund from National Research Council of Thailand.

6.8-3 Kasetsart University rice planting activity.

1. Faculty of Agriculture student club, Kamphaengsaen Campus held a project to carry on agricultural legend (indirect seeding tradition) and the activity to carry on the tradition “Planting on Mother’s Day, Harvesting on Father’s Day” (Riceberry rice) for the academic year 2019.
2. Faculty of Natural Resources and Agro-Industry Kasetsart University Chalermprakiat Sakon Nakhon Campus held the 6th rice planting event Nonsee Isan on 13 July 2019.
3. Kasetsart University Chalermprakiat Sakon Nakhon Campus cooperated with Thai Central Chemical Public Company Limited to prepare the demonstration paddy field under the project “rice productivity enhancement project” to increase Thai rice productivity and lower costs of production for farmers.

6.8 -4 Social projects/activities and academic services for environment and sustainability.

1. On 26-28 June 2019, Cow milk farm, Department of Veterinary Medicine-Faculty of Agriculture Kasetsart University Kamphaengsaen Campus led by Lecturer Dr. Nitipong Homwong, the head of the workshop project, held the 6th class workshop project “ Artificial Insemination for Cattle”.
2.On 9-10 February 2019, Faculty of Agriculture student club,
Kamphaengsaen Campus implemented a project to disseminate agricultural
knowledge to rural areas to Ban Nong Phai Ngam School.
3. On Tuesday 16 June 2020, Kasetsart University Kamphaengsaen Campus led by Miss Pimpaka Chaiyalert, the Acting Head of health facility implemented the demonstration of how to make alcohol gel hand sanitizer.
4. Extension and Training Office Kasetsart University Kamphaengsaen Campus held the activity “Kasetsart University helps farmers, farmers help consumers to fight against Covid-19”.

5. On Thursday 11 June 2020 at 13.30 o’clock.Kasetsart University Kamphaensaen Campus led by Assoc. Prof.Dr. Anuchai Pinyopummin, Vice President of Kamphaengsaen Campus together with the management joined the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Cooperation on Establishment Project of Ecotourism Destination Learning Center at Wat Plak Mai Lai.
6. On 23 January 2020 at Kampol Adulwit Conference Room, the Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Kasetsart University BangkhenCampus, Dr. Damrong Sripraram, Vice President of Internal Affairs Division-Kasetsart University was the chairman to announce the 2020 Kaset Fair held under the theme “New Innovation for sustainability of Thai agriculture” during 31 January – 8 February 2020.
7. Kasetsart University Chalermprakiat Campus has been aware of waste management problem which as of today plays a role and increases challenge to almost all local organizations in Thailand.
8. Faculty of Science and Engineering Kasetsart University Chalermprakiat Sakon Nakhon Campus provided training for villagers to culture black soldier flies to feed laying hens.

6.8.-5 Laem Phak Bia Environmental Research and Development Royal Initiative Project, Ban Laem District, Phetchaburi Province.

His Majesty the late King Bhumibhol Adulyadej proposed his initiative on 12 September 1990 to Chaipattana Foundation, Office of the Royal Development Projects Board, Royal Irrigation Department, and Kasetsart University to jointly study methods to solve environmental problems related to solid waste and waste water in communities that affect maintenance of mangrove forest condition by using natural methods and conserving nature. The relevant agencies implemented Laem Phak Bia environmental research and development project according to the royal initiative since 1991 at Laem Phak Bia sub-district, Ban Laem district, Phetchaburi province in the public area of 642 rais. As of today, Kasetsart University has given importance to and implemented this project uninterruptedly to ensure the fertility and prosperity of the ecosystem in mangrove forests, diversity of benthic animals, small size aquatic animals, economic animals in Laem Phak Bia and income generation for the community.

6.8-6 The Project for Conservation and Development Kung Bang Krachao Green Areas: Kasetsart University signed cooperation agreement with Department of Forestry and PTT. As of today green areas in large cities have decreased continuously, Kasetsart University, Department of Forestry, and PTT realize the importance of conservation and development of Kung Bang Krachao green areas which include 6 sub-districts, i.e. Bang Krachao, Bang Nam Phueng, Bang Kobua, Bang Krasob, Bang Yor, and Song Kanong, Phra Padaeng district, Samut Prakan province, being the last green areas of Bangkok and its outskirts. Moreover, PTT has supported the study and planning to improve the water flow in the areas, research on preventing erosion of river banks by building rows of bamboo poles to protect the shore from wave breaking, giving rise to new clay accumulation, mangrove forest restoration, and management of the Chalerm Phrakiat 80th Birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej Park at Song Kanong sub-district, Phra Padaeng district to be a learning center of plant varieties in the lower Chao Phraya basin (during 2016 – 2019). Currently, Kasetsart University has implemented all projects continuously though they were handed over to Department of Forestry. The university keeps on giving the importance to those projects so as to strengthen Bang Krachao to sustainability by adhering to the “sufficiency economy philosophy” of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maharat Borommanatbophit firstly given in the graduation ceremony at Kasetsart University on Wednesday 18 June 1974 as a developing guideline.

6.8-7 Kasetsart University realizes the importance of learning, research, communication, and enhancement of body of knowledge in various approaches. Emphasis is placed on actual practices. The university promotes learning management in conjunction with establishments/communities on the basis of work integrated learning to develop necessary skills in studying and working. Projects, activities, training, seminars, and workshops have been provided throughout the year in different topics so as to disseminate a body of knowledge to students, personnel, and general people. Learners are able to apply the obtained knowledge to their careers. In addition, many projects have been held and cooperated with government and private organizations continuously.

Implementation and activities taken place before the spread of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19).

Kasetsart University promoted experiential learning through field trips. Students were taken to have site visits. In addition, projects related to community activities and services were considerably organized to develop and promote people in agricultural communities to generate their income and increase community potential and to build sustainability at a community level leading to sustainability at a national level in the future. Students were allowed chances to gain benefits about social development, responsibility for communities, building good relationship with others, instilling cherishment, pride in, love and care of nature and environment in youths. In the meantime, the university has kept on giving cooperation with the government, state enterprise, and private sectors regularly.

Implementation and activities taken place during the spread of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19).

Kasetsart University gave the notification on preventive measures of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) to prevent the spread of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) and reduce risks that may occur to students and staff. Students and staff were informed not to attend classes or to stop working and stay at home to notice their symptoms. Students/staff who were sick, had a fever, or experienced respiratory symptoms were required to see a doctor for having a clinical diagnosis immediately. The university implemented cleaning and sanitizing all areas of educational buildings and all buildings in the campus.Though, all classes and field trips were suspended for a while, the university has been aware of the importance of this problem. Thus, hand sanitizer (alcohol gel) activity and cloth face mask activity took place to teach students, staff, and other people how they are made. Besides, there was a project called the pantry of sharing (Too Pansuk) to help ease the trouble of those who were affected by the spread of the coronavirus or Covid-19. Even when the situation of Covid-19 spreading was better, the university has adhered to the preventive measures on the spread of coronavirus continuously with regard to social distancing, cleaning and sanitizing, measuring people’s body temperature before they received services. The university organized various activities related to giving knowledge, giving recommendation, and providing assistance to people who were affected by the Covid-19 situation. The organized activities were concerned with social distancing and the number of activity participants was limited. Classes were carried out online. People who made contact and coordination with the university were screened and collected data as they were required to have body temperature checked, wear surgical or cloth masks, wash their hands using hand sanitizer, and register their primary data every time.

Implementation and activities after the spread of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19)

From the previous situation of the spread of Covid-19, the university has maintained the hygiene standard additionally carried out during the spread of Covid-19 as the standard of a new way of life known as New Normal so as to reduce the risk of Covid-19 spreading. The university has implemented various activities with the consideration of social distancing and promotes activities for giving knowledge and prevention about the re-spread of the coronavirus to build confidence in students, staff, and general people including communities and schools. The university keeps on following the preventive measures on the spread of the coronavirus in terms of social distancing, cleaning and sanitizing, and checking body temperature before receiving services continuously.

Sufficiency economy: The university has made an attempt to build security and sustainability in all aspects; economy, society, culture, and environment, by inducing “the sufficiency economy philosophy” of the late King Rama 9 and King Rama 10’s wish – “to continue, preserve, and build upon the royal legacy” to develop a body of knowledge giving rise to new innovation for promoting the science of sufficiency economy in a more tangible manner for Thailand and global change. Kasetsart University is an educational institution with a dedicated commitment to accumulate, seek, and develop knowledge to achieve intellectual prosperity filled with academic, ethics, and morality including guiding the direction of good intention inheritance of the society for existence, prosperity, and civilization of the nation. The operations vision is to create knowledge of land to achieve international levels for developing thecountry in a sustainable manner.
