2.1 Energy efficient appliances usage

Kasetsart University announced the guideline of electrical energy conservation policy for all departments in the university. The principle to use electricity efficiently, cost-effective, and has the greatest benefit which must start from the method of choosing electrical appliances that are effective and suitable for use. As well as, knowing how to use that electric appliances. This is not only helping to save energy but also having a good impact on the public, in terms of preserving nature and the environment.

Motion Sensor

The library uses a motion sensor system to control the lights on and off during the bookshelf on the 3rd floor in the archive books. The lighting will dim after there is no access to the area, including a separate circuit to switch on-off the lights into sub-area so that you can choose to turn off the lights in areas where there are no users in that area without disturbing the reading area. The lights are also aligned relative to the bookshelves to direct light onto the spines book and corridors and changed into a more energy-efficient light.

Energy Information System (EIS)

The system can display real-time energy values as seen on the screen and viewed via mobile. Be able to investigate information from both buildings, Moreover, showing the amount of electricity produced from solar panels installed on the 4th floor of Theparat Wittayachot Building, which EIS system is an assist system for observing the behavior of using building’s energy. There is calculating the trend of energy consumption, which makes it easy to notice if power consumption is abnormal during different periods.

The graph shows the power consumption

LUX Sensor (connecting the building)

There is a lot of natural light in the area connecting the building and the glass-fronted seating area. Therefore, a LUX sensor is installed to measure the amount of light. If there is a lot of light outside, the LUX sensor will automatically dim the light to reduce energy consumption (installed at the building connecting the 2nd floor and 3rd floor.

Air quality monitoring system

Objective: To measure indoor air quality and store data on the cloud system 24 hours a day. Indoor air quality can be monitored and analyzed according to the standards of each pollutant. There is unusual information able to alert to solve the problems collectively.

Installed Equipment: EDIMAX

Location of installation: Deparat Wittayachot Building, 4th floor, 1 outside reading room and 1 inside reading room.

Measured values: Standard values for each pollutant:

Humidity (%RH) should not exceed 70%, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) should not exceed 1000 ppm (8 hrs. average), and PM2.5 dust should not exceed 38 micrograms per cubic meter.

Display: Able to monitor measurement results via Platform from anywhere with the internet without limitation.

Able to alert before an anomaly occurs or is prone to an anomaly, can retrieve historical data and summarize it as a report.

ENERGY STAR is a standard designed for electronic products. That can save more than 20%-30% of energy, including IT products. We can see this ENERGY STAR global warming reduction logo on computers, notebooks, power supplies. Cooling systems, motherboards, etc. Selecting an ENERGY STAR product can save up to 55% of energy even when the power is turned off. Help users save electricity pocket money and is known for helping to conserve the environment,  help reduce global warming as well.

Computers and printers labelled with Energy Star

Green label is Thailand’s environmental label. Which is a type one label which is certified by a central organization Labeling on products to communicate to consumers that Products that are certified with this label are The components of the production process, use and disposal that have less impact on the environment than the same type of products that are not certified. Consumers or users who want products that are environmentally friendly can choose to buy these products from notice “Green Label” displayed on the label of the product.

At present, LED is a technology for producing energy-saving light bulbs. It is an innovation for efficient lamp production. It does not emit UV rays and heat when operating and safe from mercury, it is more than 40,000 hours of lifespan and help to reduce environmental problem. Many forms of innovation and production of energy-saving electrical appliances have operated in the country. This is an opportunity for Kasetsart University to use technology, from the development of efficient electrical appliances, to be useful and suitable for each location. Besides, it is concurrence to the university’s electricity saving policy.

In the post pandemic time @ ku

From the situation of COVID-19 began to unravel. “Living in a New Normal” or “New Life” has therefore started to play important role in the behavior of people in daily life which technology especially online, such as work from home, video conference or online learning. Therefore, Kasetsart University give priority on electrical equipment that be used to support teaching and learning to be up-to-date and energy saving. Therefore efficient energy usage being able to help reduce energy consumption and reduce energy costs also solved environmental problems for sustainable society.
